The short version: we use your location to show your weather, never to track you. You can use the app without an account. We don't sell your data or show ads. Analytics are anonymous and limited to how the app is used, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
Who we are
Meteopolis is made by Ibrahim Issoufou ("we", "us"), an individual developer. For anything about your privacy, write to support@meteopolis.app.
What we collect and why
| Data | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Location (from your device, only while you use the app) | To show the weather and scene for where you are | Only if you allow location access |
| Cities you search for and save | To show their weather and scenes | When you add a city |
| Account details: name, email address and profile picture from Sign in with Apple or Google (Apple lets you hide your email) | To sync your styles, cities and settings, and to tie purchases to you | Only if you sign in. Signing in is optional |
| Synced preferences: chosen style, saved cities, units and settings | To restore them on your other devices | Only if you sign in |
| Purchase records: products bought, subscription status, an app user ID | To unlock what you bought and restore it | When you buy or restore |
| Alert registration: a random install ID, your device's push tokens and the locations of your saved cities | To send severe-weather alerts and Live Activities for those places | Only if you turn on Weather alerts |
| Anonymous usage events, such as "opened the style gallery" or "picked a style" | To understand which features people use and improve them | While you use the app |
| Crash and error reports: device model, OS and app version, technical error details | To find and fix bugs | When something goes wrong |
Usage events are limited to a fixed list of in-app actions and a few technical labels, such as a style or product name. They never include your location, cities, name, email or account. Crash reports are scrubbed of email addresses, tokens and web addresses before they leave your phone.
We don't collect your contacts, photos, health data or browsing history. We don't use advertising identifiers or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
How location is used
When you allow it, the app reads your location while it's open and sends coordinates to our weather service to fetch the forecast, air quality and pollen for that place. It also uses them to find the nearest city, so it can show that city's scene. Scenes are drawn for cities, not exact addresses, so the art is shared by everyone in the same city. You can turn location off at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Meteopolis and search for cities instead.
Services that help run Meteopolis
We share data only with the providers below, and only what each needs to do its job:
- Apple: Apple WeatherKit (forecasts and alerts), Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, and push notifications.
- Google: air quality and pollen data for a location, and Sign in with Google if you choose it.
- Supabase: hosting for our weather service, accounts, synced preferences and alert registrations.
- RevenueCat: purchase and subscription management.
- PostHog: anonymous product analytics.
- Sentry: crash and error reporting.
- Open-Meteo: city search (the text you type in the search box).
- OpenAI: image generation for city scenes. It receives only the city name and the weather to draw, never anything about you.
We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of users or others.
How long we keep it
- Account and synced preferences: until you delete your account.
- Alert registration: while alerts are set up on your device. Turning alerts off stops all alerts. To have the registration erased, email us.
- Purchase records: as long as needed to provide your purchases and to meet tax and accounting rules.
- Analytics and crash reports: only as long as they're useful for improving the app, then deleted or aggregated.
Your choices and rights
- Use it without an account. Everything except syncing works signed out.
- Delete your account in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, profile and synced preferences, and revokes Sign in with Apple.
- Location and notifications can be turned off at any time in iOS Settings.
- Access, correction, deletion or a copy of your data: email support@meteopolis.app and we'll respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (EU and UK) and US state privacy laws, including California's CCPA, give you rights to access, correct, delete or port your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. You can use them by emailing us. We won't treat you differently for using them. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Our legal bases under the GDPR are: performing our contract with you (providing the app and your purchases), your consent (location, notifications and sign-in), and our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it (anonymous analytics and crash reports).
International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to stored data is restricted, and each signed-in user can only read their own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and collect as little as we can.
Children
Meteopolis isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date below. If the change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.
Effective October 15, 2026.
